Rutte Celery Dry Gin
Rutte Celery Dry Gin comes from Rutte & Zonen in Dordrecht, the Netherlands, a distillery founded by Simon Rutte in 1872 that still works from his handwritten recipe books. It is a wheat-based dry gin built on juniper, coriander and angelica and finished with celery, a botanical Simon Rutte himself experimented with, bottled at 43% ABV (86 proof).
The Gin Is In rated it 3.5 out of 5 and found it fundamentally a classic gin with celery as an accent: juniper, coriander and angelica with a slight earthiness on the nose, green vegetal notes with juniper, celery leaf, lemon zest and coriander on the palate, and a medium finish of celery stalk, black pepper and juniper warmth. The reviewer recommended it with tonic, where it recalls celery soda, and in a botanical Martini. It is also a superb Gibson or Bloody Mary gin.
