Venus Spirits Small Batch Gin Blend #2

Venus Spirits Gin Blend No. 2 is the barrel-aged gin from Venus Spirits in Santa Cruz, California, founded in 2013 by Sean and Grace Venus. It uses a savory botanical bill of juniper, cardamom, coriander, orange, bay leaf, sage, fennel and pepper on an organic wheat spirit, then rests in charred American oak, and is bottled at 46% ABV (92 proof).

Gin Foundry found the oak leading with vanilla sweetness and candied notes, fresh bay leaf and bright caramelized orange on the palate, subdued juniper and a warming finish of pepper and spice, and judged it better suited to neat sipping and classic cocktails than a G&T. That is the brief: a gin Old Fashioned, a Martinez, a Negroni or a Boulevardier-style stir. A Central Coast gin for whiskey drinkers and cocktail tinkerers.
